Arbri Road: Bridging Distances, Connecting Tirana to Northern Albania.

Unites People, Shortens Distances, Fosters Communities, and Accelerates Development.

The Arbri Road construction project is a monumental effort designed to revolutionize transportation in the region. It includes the construction of many tunnels, bridges (including some of the highest in the country), and a modern, well-engineered highway that will not only enhance accessibility but also provide smoother, faster travel across the mountainous terrain.
This project represents a monumental effort to enhance regional connectivity, addressing both geographical and geological challenges, while setting a benchmark for future infrastructure development in the area.
Also, this project marks Albania’s first successful PPP (Public Private Partnership) initiative. Throughout its execution, we encountered some of the most challenging geological conditions.
The Arbri Road is of particular importance in all civil engineering projects in Albania due to its steep topography and challenging geotechnical terrain.
The road is designed to connect Albania with North Macedonia by crossing mountainous terrains with very deep valleys (canyons over 200m high), intersecting with several rivers, and aligned through the terrains where transverse changes are abrupt; thus, the project is prone to geotechnical problems especially when weak ground conditions meet with excessive pore pressure deviations.
The Arbri Road construction consists of 6 tunnels of about 9.5 km length in total and 4 bridges two of which are the highest in the country. Particularly, the most challenging part of the project is 3.8 km long “Murrizi Tunnel” which starts from Tirana and ends in Mat.
